Adjusting Maritime Profile Tracking Rates

RockFLEET devices are by default set on Maritime profile which is our recommended settings. Over Cellular network, the unit will record the position fix at the 15-second intervals and transmit the data every 1 minute. On Satellite network, the unit will record position fix every 5 minutes and transmit the data every 10 minutes. The SAT transmission rate is less frequent because of the higher cost of transmitting messages over Satellite.

NOTE: Only update the tracking frequency on RockFLEET unit if you are fairly confident and famillar with TP Connect and how the device transmits data. Please get in touch with us first if you have any concerns or doubts around a setting change.

If you wish to update the frequency of either of these, then you can do so by following the steps below:

1. Using TP Connect app on iOS

  • Connect to your RockFLEET device on TP Connect via Bluetooth. If prompted, the pin is 1234.
  • Click on the configure tab at the bottom of the screen.
  • Once there click on the Maritime profile (a blue tick should appear to the right).
  • Click the Custom tab. If prompted, the password is 4321.

Transmission rates can be changed under the “Tracking  > Satellite Context” and “Tracking > Cellular Context” settings.

The recommended Transmit Rate for the Satellite Context with Activity Sense Enabled on Power (recommended for the Maritime Profile) is 24hrs, the Burst Fix Rate should be 5 mins and the Burst Transmit Rate should be 10 mins.

These settings mean that if the device is idle it will send a transmission ping once every 24 hours, but when the RockFLEET detects power it will send 2 pings (burst fix) every 10 mins (burst transmit) for Satellite. Over cellular, the default is to send 4 pings (burst fix) every 1 minute (burst transmit).

If you need to change the transmit rates, you should leave the Transmit Rate at 24 hours. You can adjust the Burst Fix and Burst Transmit rates. Generally, the Burst Fix rate should be half of the Burst Transmit Rate. However, these can be set to the same value if you don’t require breadcrumbs.

2. Using RockSEVEN Connect app on Android

  • Connect to your RockFLEET device on the app via Bluetooth. If prompted, the pin is 1234.
  • Click on the configure tab.
  • Transmission rates can be changed under the “Tracking  > Satellite Context” and “Tracking > Cellular Context” settings.
